About

This is the class blog for Nations and Nationalism: Geography 3600

The big questions of this class:

What is a nation? What is nationalism? Why should we care? How do they shape us? How do we shape them? How are they changing? How would you want them to change? How might that happen?

posts here are specifically about artifacts that serve as a sign or symbol of a nation

These are artifacts that are not necessarily openly tied to or about the nation, but express something about the Canadian, a (or all) First Nation(s), or the Quebequois nation – or another nation that the writer feels closely connected to.  Questions asked are: How does it shape and is it shaped by the nation (or nations)? Does it say anything about the other nations? Is it shaped by our colonial history? Is it gendered, raced, classed, or otherwise marked by or relate to systems of difference?
